Update for families of children of Warmsworth Primary School – Unauthorised Encampment

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We wanted to provide you with an update on the recent incident at the school involving an unauthorised encampment and subsequent damage to the site.

Firstly, we want to express our heartfelt thank you to our families and wider school community for your kind offers of support, which have not gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated.

We are continuing the clean-up operation with support from the City of Doncaster Council, including their Environmental Health and Corporate Health and Safety teams, following all recommended actions and guidance to ensure that our facilities are back up and running and are safe for our children to use in the new academic year.

There are some areas of our grounds that are likely to still be out of action for a short while longer, including the school field and woodland area, and to ensure we are being as thorough as possible, we are working with a cleaning contractor to carry out a deeper clean of those areas. We will ensure that this is done as quickly as possible so that our children are able to enjoy all of our facilities in a safe manner.

Some families have understandably expressed concerns about security. As you know, the safety of our children, staff and the school grounds and buildings are of the highest importance, and we wanted to update you on the increased measures we have put in place:

  • New lock and gate lock shroud installed on the gate used to access the site
  • Installation of a soil mound at the access point and a planned installation of a secondary barrier
  • The local Neighbourhood Response Team are continuing with their monitoring and patrolling of the area throughout this week and over the weekend whilst the school is still closed.

Once again, we appreciate your support in dealing with this matter and if you have any additional concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office on our return to school. We will share further updates on the reopening of the other areas in due course.

We won’t let this incident take away from our school community’s excitement for our new academic year starting next week and we are looking forward to seeing lots of wonderful new and returning faces.

Thank you for your continued support.
