Year 3 - Science: How do muscles work? 8.7.22

Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 2:57pm

To continue our science learning about the human body, we have learnt all about how muscles work. We conducted our own scientific experiments to find out how muscles differed when arms are relaxed and contracted. We used our maths skills to make sure that we measured our group's arms accurately and presented our data in a bar chart. We now know:

- When a muscle contracts (bunches up), it gets shorter and so pulls on the bone it is attached to.

- When a muscle relaxes, it goes back to its normal size.

- Muscles can only pull and cannot push, so they work in pairs to move a joint.

- One muscle will contract and pull a joint one way, and another muscle will contract and pull it the other way.
