Year 5 - Queen's Jubilee Celebrations

Date: 9th Jun 2022 @ 4:29pm

On Friday before half term, Year 5 had the opportunity to attend a fantastic day out at Cast, the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum, and The Point. This was a day organised for children from across Doncaster to attend and partake in a range of activities, from dancing to exploring sculptures that explored the theme of disability. The children also got to write a newspaper report about the Queen visiting Doncaster and her hat flying off and around the city's sites!

However, the most laughs of the day came during a session with a wonderful performance poet and a highly-skilled illustrator, who had the children in fits of giggles while creating a poem about the Queen playing football and being a kung-fu master. The children also learnt to illustrate the poem quickly in a comic style.

The children rounded the day off with a performance of the dance they had learnt across the day, coming together in the square in front of Cast to perform. Needless to say, the children absolutely smashed it!!

The day was the perfect end to a series of workshops that had been delivered in school, which included creating collages of important 'artefacts' from the Queen's reign. It was lovely to see the children's work displayed in the Danum Gallery, and for some of them to be included on the final piece of artwork.
