1st half term done for F2!

Date: 20th Oct 2023 @ 4:08pm

What an amazing half-term we have had with all of you children!

In Maths we have been exploring patterns, and digging deeper into our learning of the numbers 1, 2 and 3 - the children are now expert repeating pattern creators and also super subitisers!

In music we have been exploring sound - children have used percussion instruments to make sound as well as their own bodies! The children listen to the sounds in nature, identified them and then actively followed participated in some great listening games.

For the last two weeks F2 have been studying the beautiful story of Owl Babies and linking this to our own families and what they mean to us. We have really enjoyed learning all about each child's family tree, thank you so much for supporting this through home learning - it has been fantastic! Whilst talking through our own families we discovered that Thea Wisdom's grandma came over to England in the late 50's/early 60's as part of the Empire Windrush movement - an open initiation following the war to help build the UK.

Waving bye to her siblings and parents, she travelled the long journey alone to a new country and not knowing what to expect (in a time where the only communication was via letters) - but knew once she arrived she would rejoin with her older brothers and sisters who had settled some years before. Being a naturally caring person, she successfully completed her nursing training and worked at various hospitals across England over a career that spanned 25yrs. This tied in beautifully to our reading of Floella Benjamin's story 'Coming to England' on Friday. What an amazing story - thank you Thea for sharing this with us!

Thank you again to all parents for sharing their family history - we have F2 families all over the world from Australia to the USA which has been incredible for our Understanding the World learning as well.

Finally, as part of our support for Showing Racism the Red Card it has been great to see all of F2 wearing something red today - the children listened carefully to the story of Rosa Parks and we discussed how racism is not welcome in our classrooms or within our school and wider community.

We hope you have enjoyed your first half term in F2, have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing you on the 30th October!
