At Warmsworth Primary School, we appreciate the uniqueness of each child and enable them to realise their full potential.

We aim to motivate and challenge them to achieve life-long success, by providing our children with an engaging, exciting and empowering curriculum that equips them to go forward and meet the challenges of the National Curriculum.

We recognise children's prior learning and provided first hand experiences which allow our children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. 

We have a dedicated EYFS team, which care for every child and their well-being.  They strive every day to provide our children with the best start to their school education, rigorously planning and delivering exciting and challenging learning experiences to enable our children to enjoy school and to become confident and skilled learners.


We plan all our learning experiences based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum where the ‘Seven Areas of Learning’ are an integral part of each day.

Playing, exploring, active learning, creating and being able to think critically are all essential building blocks to ensure our children thrive and gain enthusiasm for learning and finding out for themselves.

The provision in all our Foundation Stage classes is of a high quality throughout both Foundation Stage One and Foundation Stage Two and includes a wide range of activities to develop interests, and stimulate our children’s curiosity.  The provision areas are tailored to meet the needs of our children and links are made with the topics/themes and specific interests.

The school day consists of both: child-initiated learning as well as differentiated groups and whole class learning.  Through these sessions we aim to develop our children’s self-belief and resilience to enable them to become confident learners.

Phonics is taught daily in all our Foundation Stage classes. A variety of stimulus is used to teach phonics (based on the Letters and Sounds document) and our reading books support each child’s stage of development.

Each day the children have a story session to promote the love of books and reading.  A variety of different texts are chosen that cover different genres and link with the year groups topic/themes/selected authors.

We encourage learning beyond the classroom and our children in the Foundation Stage are encouraged to read daily and record events with family in their Home Learning Book.


At Warmsworth Primary School we take great pride in our school environment.  We have created outdoor learning spaces to promote our children’s love for their environment.  We have our own safe and secure woodland and poly tunnel which the children in the Foundation Stage explore every week;  Foundation Stage One explore the outdoors every week for ‘Muddy Monday’ and Foundation Stage Two learn from the outdoors on ‘Welly Wednesday.’

Assessment, Recording and Reporting

All children have a baseline assessment within the first 3 weeks of starting at our school. Each child has a ‘Learning Journey’ in which the children are assessed against the ‘Early Learning Goals.’ Parents are invited to contribute to these learning journeys and have the opportunity to discuss these with their child’s teacher.

Partnerships and Relationships

Parents are an integral part of the provision we provide in our school, starting from the welcome meetings for parents, through to the regular parent workshops and enterprise events where they are invited to work with their child in the class, and celebrate the learning that has been achieved.

We work effectively with a wide variety of outside professionals, to meet the learning and physical needs of our children and encourage the collaboration with parents.
